Ross has now been training for 6 months. I am delighted with his enjoyment of the training sessions and the benefits he is gaining are improvement of co-ordination, fitness and listening skills. I would like to commend you on the culture of encouragement, affirmation, good manners, respect and discipline that are evident and I would especially like to commend Sempai Rika for applying these values in the Dragon's training sessions
For myself the Kickboxing is fun and its helped me with my fitness and discipline. I also enjoy the form in which the class is taught. My son Ewan also enjoys it and it is what he needs with his excessive energy.
Thanks very much.
Didn't realise I could stretch that far, Feeling better every training. Hard out sweating at the mo, can feel one ab coming through.
I have been studying with Kupa International Martial Arts for the last 6 months. I have developed better self defence, self respect, motivation and discipline. I recommend it.
Professionally: Kupa Dojo / Kupa Family / Staff run in accordance with their style of Arts "professionally" Academically: Classes are taught at all levels of understanding. Repetitions are always helpful for my mature mind. Praise is always encouraged. People praise is always good!!!
Healthy Choice: I know on behalf of myself / family, I have made great choice for us all!! My family agree too. Kupa Dojo is part of our healthy choice of living.
Personally: Over the past year or so our family have had its share of trials. However the 110% supports from Kupa Dojo / Kupa family have kept our family strong and together. (BIG THANKS!!!)
Life Style: Martial Arts has become incorporated into our lives, and that of my Grandsons. It has been a life style change for us all!!
FUN - FRIENDLY - FAMILY - FUZZIES = all of the above.
Well organised with good teaching skills. The student is made to feel valued and is encouraged. There is only positive input. A very professionally run school.
I enjoy the fitness and discipline of Kickboxing. Shihan pushes us to our limits and beyond to better myself. Helps me on my faults to perfect the art of Martial Arts.
Overall the students really enjoyed the session with you. There was a variety of activities and you had the student's attention. I felt some of the talking was a little fast for them, perhaps delivering the instructions a bit slower along with demonstrating the moves you want them to do would work better. You were welcoming and friendly and positive with all of them, even those who were not as co-ordinated at the moves.
Thank you very much for having us.
Teacher in charge of sport
A well organised highly encouraging and motivating program that boosts confidence and fitness. I would highly recommend the KIMA program to anyone!
To Whom It May Concern:
As a parent I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the warm welcome our family has received since our son joined KIMA. On my first visit to the dojo, Tom Kupa introduced himself and gave me a tour of his complex and a brief overview of their philosophy when it was clear to me that he was very busy. Every time I turn up there, (which is 2 or 3 times a week) he welcomes me like a dear friend that he hasn't seen in a long time. There is a family atmosphere present there which I have not experienced in any other organisation. As with many families at the dojo my daughter and wife have joined up now, because of its fun, safe, positive, non-contact and non-threatening environment, Students come along even when they are not training, - because they can, its seems they cant get enough of the place! If you want to join the best martial arts centre in the bay, then I recommend KIMA at Stortford Lodge.
I believe that Tom Kupa is an extremely worthy recipient of this award. He is a true leader of our community and has been for many years. He is a positive role model for his tauira and our rangatahi. He has achieved excellence in his chosen field. This is evidenced by his achievements, awards and has culminated in his nomination for the martial arts hall of fame by his peers who are the pinnacle of martial artists. He contributes to our community in many ways. Not only has he been a leader for us, but he has also developed many young people into leaders in their own right. He does this by having passion in all he does and teaches the principles of respect, integrity, honesty as the foundation for his martial arts. As a result, we have many young Maori leaders with positive outlooks being held in high regard by other younger students. He has already provided a legacy in his lifetime of future Maori leaders. In our society today, this is invaluable and has helped to positively influence many people and through others will continue to do so long in to the future.
I also support this application because, as I read the ideal characteristics of an applicant, I found that the characteristic which the Maori Battalion were renowned for in the last century; being courage, vigour and competence are all reflected and taught by Tom in this century. He is someone whose ideals, ethics and values are able to be taught and passed on to future generations. In addition, he contributes to the community by providing free bullying programmes, by supporting many local charities and fundraising events. He is always willing to assist anyone who is in need or asks. He provides the tools for people to gain respect where there may have been none, strength and courage where there was fear and a sense of community and belonging.
